Condensate chambers of paper machines

Condensate chambers are reinforced concrete containers, which are part of the vapor removal system of paper machines.

The scope of our work included:

• visual inspection of technical condition of the chambers’ supporting structure
• survey of damage (photographic documentation)
• sampling of chambers’ concrete
• temperature measurement of external walls during the work of paper machines

Aims of our work:

• defining technical condition of condensate chambers
• conclusions about the impact of possible damages on capacity of the chambers
• specifying conditions and recommendations about further exploitation of condensate chambers with proposal of repair method

Due to bad technical condition of some chambers, we have undertaken verifiable calculation notes. For this purpose we created calculation models and performed structural and strength nonlinear analysis.
